Program in European schools: the miniature garden as teaching material

The European Union recommends teachers to promote, among students, the role that farmers play in society and the importance of agriculture not only as a source of food supply, but also from the point of view of protecting the environment and natural resources. To this end, the European Commission has created a platform with educational teaching materials aimed at raising awareness among young Europeans about the importance of agriculture in Europe and how markets work.

The platform can be used by teachers who teach various subjects, such as geography, economics, European studies, national economics, agricultural sciences, information and communication technology or social sciences and addresses three topics: Food, Aquaculture and Agriculture. The aim is to arouse young people’s interest in agriculture, to educate them in the spirit of adopting a healthy diet, to understand agriculture and new techniques used, from machines and equipment used, to crop development and disease management. The pedagogical package can be found here.
